ALL ABOUT RELAYS — COMMISSIONING TEST PLANNING CHECKLIST Educational planning aid | Revision 1 | October 2026 Author: Dhanabal Mani Project / bay: __________________ Date: __________ Equipment / relay ID: ___________________________ Approved procedure and revision: ________________ Test lead / reviewer: ___________________________ BEFORE THE TEST [ ] Define the protection function and operating scenario. [ ] Identify approved drawings, settings, configuration versions, and manuals. [ ] Calculate the expected response independently of the test software. [ ] Define stimulus entry and observation points. [ ] List included, omitted, and simulated equipment. [ ] Confirm authorized isolations, permits, and switching controls. [ ] Identify CT circuit, DC circuit, remote-trip, and unintended-operation risks. [ ] Check instruments, calibration status, ranges, and timing references. [ ] State acceptance limits and their approved basis. DURING THE TEST [ ] Record stimulus quantities, phase relationships, and sequence. [ ] Monitor intended element assertion and competing elements. [ ] Record logic, contact, communications, and breaker responses as applicable. [ ] Distinguish simulated indications from actual equipment response. [ ] Retain event records and raw results with equipment identification. RESTORATION AND REVIEW [ ] Restore approved settings and logic; remove temporary test changes. [ ] Restore test switches, links, network modes, and physical connections. [ ] Verify healthy indications and appropriate operational status. [ ] Record defects, limitations, and any retest requirements. [ ] State exactly what was demonstrated and what remains unverified. [ ] Obtain required independent review and operational release authorization. This checklist does not authorize switching or replace an approved commissioning procedure. Follow site safety rules, equipment instructions, and qualified engineering judgment. Never open an energized CT secondary circuit.
